When is the best time to dive in Komodo?

In Komodo, you can dive all year round, as each season offers its own unique beauty and experience, from calm, sunny adventures in crystal-clear waters to thrilling encounters with majestic mantas during the wilder months.

The best time to dive in Komodo is during the dry season, from April to October, when the sea is calm and the days are bright and sunny. This is the perfect season to explore the North and Central dive sites, known for their excellent visibility, colorful coral gardens, and encounters with reef sharks, turtles, giant trevallies, and schools of fusiliers and anthias.

From November to December, the rainy season begins. The sea can be a bit rough and currents stronger—but it’s also the best time to see Manta Rays. During this period, you may also spot nudibranchs, frogfish, and other macro critters hiding among the rocks and corals.

January and February mark the peak of the rainy season, when the weather can be unpredictable and, at times, the harbor master may restrict boats from sailing. Still, when the conditions allow, you may be rewarded with manta trains, turtles, and swirling schools of fish in dramatic underwater landscapes.

By March, the weather starts to improve again, offering a nice mix of calm seas and rich marine life before the dry season returns.
