Discovering the Natural Wonders of the Komodo National Park.

This stunning location features three beautiful islands, Komodo Island, Rinca Island, and Padar Island, as well as 26 other mini-islands. The terrain is rugged and diverse, with craggy hills and dry savannas.

In 1991, UNESCO recognized the park as a World Heritage Site, primarily for its efforts to protect the Komodo Dragon. Nowadays, the park has become a sanctuary for all sorts of wildlife, including marine life.

Speaking of marine life, the park is located in the Coral Triangle, making it an ideal location for underwater enthusiasts. Don’t miss the chance to witness the vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine species! The climate is tropical, with distinct wet and dry seasons. To make the most of your visit, plan to go between April and December, and avoid the rainiest months.

The Importance of Komodo Waters’ Currents on Marine Biodiversity

As a lot of you are aware, the currents in Komodo waters are quite strong and noticeable. The tides shift and transport water volume from the Flores Sea (which is fed by the Pacific Ocean) to the Savu Sea (fed by the Indian Ocean) and vice versa. These movements are vital for providing nutrients to the area and sustaining its rich biodiversity. The waters are home to over 260 coral species, 70 sponge species, and over 1000 fish species, turtles, and marine mammals.

Ensuring Safety and Fun During Your Diving Experience

We prioritize safety and fun. Our team is composed of experienced Divemaster & Instructors who are well-versed in the area and dive sites. Please be advised that there may be instances when we need to switch our planned dive site to a more suitable location based on the current weather and tidal conditions. Rest assured, our team will always prioritize your safety while ensuring that you have an enjoyable diving experience.

Promoting Environmentally Responsible Diving Practices

We prioritize environmentally responsible diving practices. In our briefings, we explain the necessary guidelines that must be followed to protect the stunning underwater ecosystem. For instance, we want to preserve the Manta rays, which are a major attraction to the Komodo area. Therefore, we provide a detailed briefing on Manta encounter rules before every dive.

To minimize environmental impact, we strictly enforce a no gloves policy and encourage divers to maintain proper buoyancy. Additionally, we suggest using sunscreen to avoid sunburn, but use an eco-friendly sunscreen which is available in Labuan Bajo ~ CocoMama.

We’re committed to reducing plastic bottle use by encouraging divers to use reusable cups or bringing their own refillable water container. Let’s work together to protect our oceans and make diving a sustainable activity.
